Two Events Remain for LPGA Tour Pros to Qualify for The Chevron Championship

March 25, 2024

Time running out to secure a spot in the 132-player major field – In just 24 days, The Chevron Championship will tee off at The Club at Carlton Woods, and LPGA Tour professionals have two opportunities left to play their way into the field for the first major championship of the season.

Players who have yet to lock in a spot in the 132-player field can play their way in with a win or through the Race to the CME Globe standings going into The Chevron Championship. Among the rising stars on Tour who will head to Texas in search of their first major championship are 20-year-old Stanford alum Rose Zhang, who burst onto the scene with a win in her professional debut last June, and 19-year old Alexa Pano, who captured her first career win on her 19th birthday last August.

Other notable names who currently hold a spot in the Chevron field include Rolex Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda, who has captured two playoff titles in the 2024 LPGA Tour season; reigning Chevron champion and Rolex Rankings No. 2 Lilia Vu; Ryann O’Toole, who fell to Korda in a playoff yesterday in Los Angeles; and 2024 LPGA Tour rookie Gabriela Ruffels, who will be competing in her fourth Chevron after an illustrious amateur career.

Korda is looking to capture her second career major title in a few weeks in The Woodlands. She called her game “not too shabby” following yesterday’s victory at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, adding, “I would say there is definitely some loose ends I need to tighten up. I think overall the work I’ve put in, I can see that I’ve improved.” Korda, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, has finished no worse than third in her last three Chevron appearances (T2 in 2020, T3 in 2021 and solo third in 2023, while missing 2022 due to injury).

From April 17-21, the best female golfers on the planet will head to Southeast Texas to compete for one of the crown jewels in the sport – the Dinah Shore Trophy – and the chance to etch their names into golf history.

The first six tournaments of the season have produced five different winners, a testament to the LPGA Tour’s elite level of competition. This week, the Tour visits the Valley of the Sun for the Ford Championship presented by KCC at Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, Ariz., before heading to Las Vegas for the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards at Shadow Creek on April 3-7.

In addition to welcoming the best of the best on the LPGA Tour, The Chevron Championship has a longstanding tradition of providing the brightest young amateur players with an opportunity to showcase their talent and a pathway to the professional level. Chevron offers six spots for qualifying amateurs from key international amateur tournaments.

Four amateur spots have already been secured by Chun-Wei Wu of Chinese Taipei, winner of the 2024 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific; Germany’s Chiara Horder, winner of the 2023 Women’s Amateur Championship; America’s Megan Schofill, winner of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship; and Argentina’s Ela Anacona, winner of the 2024 Women’s Latin America Amateur Championship.

The remaining amateur spots will be awarded in April to the winners of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Chevron Silverado Showdown.

Additionally, Texas native Angela Stanford has received an exemption to play in The Chevron Championship. Stanford, a member of the LPGA Tour since 2001, will compete in her 98th consecutive major championship, the longest active major streak in professional golf.
